The future of the combat system in Taru's Infernal Pledge
Hi everyone!
Today I would like to discuss with you the controversial combat system of Taru's Infernal Pledge. I've seen many comments praising the fact that you can skip the combat, and that they simply did not understand how the system works. To this day the biggest praise for the combat system I have heard is "It's ok".
I hate most combat systems in visual novels, because they are seldom engaging. In Taru's Infernal Pledge, however, I wanted to try something new and introduce a combat system to a VN that has 0 elements of luck or stats involved. Pure player skill and deduction is needed in the combat.
The combat system is a reskinned mastermind with simplified options. Rather than showing a 4-slot key with 8 colors in each slot, TIP's system has 2, 3 or 4 slots with only 6 colors.
Before completely discarding the combat system, I've done a bit of a redesign for it and update the UI. I have not changed how the system works, only made it look visually more appealing. At the end of this post is the old and new design.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the combat system.
